At 21 years old, Vida Blue became the league MVP and Cy Young award winner during the 1971 season. Blue compiled a 24-8 record leading the AL with an ERA of 1.82 with 301 strikeouts and (8) shutouts. Vida was a 6 time All-star and assisted the Oakland Athletics to become only the second team in MLB history to win the World Series in three consecutive seasons.
